Great little spot to happen across when getting lost on Pine Island. Had the sangria and it was excellent. The chili burger I ordered was cooked to perfection but could have used a little more chili (I didn't see enough to warrant ordering it over a normal burger). Fries were tasty but needed seasoning (a pinch of salt from the shaker on the table sufficed). My wife and I went there on a Tuesday and she got the 45 cent shrimp deal and loved it. The shrimp were giant. All in all, great food, good prices in a cozy setting.

Some friends who live on the island took us out fishing and we caught a few. We brought our cleaned catch in with us and they did a great job of portioning, seasoning and frying up our fish. A morning of fishing became a great dinner out. For a reasonable price per plate they added fries and coleslaw. Topping it off was a piece of fresh key lime pie. We will be back next time we're in town and the fish are biting! Loved the casual atmosphere on the water too!

Pros: they keep shoving cole slaw in your face Cons: slow service, warm oysters, slow service and slow service

We visited the Waterfront Restaurant for years (2005), the service was always good, the food was yummy and cheap and we loved it! But since last summer something changed. The food portions were extremely small!!!!! I ordered a House Salad and added grouper for 8 dollar. In my opinion a piece of grouper for 8 dollars should be around 150 grams. But mine was SMALL. Maybe around 70 grams. FOR 8 DOLLARS?! Excuse me! The food of my family wasn't better... the shrimp basket for 16 dollars counted 8 shrimps, tasting - well- bad. Same with the Grouper sandwich. Very small portion for an comparatively high price! When we asked the waitress for an explanation, she gave us a very impolite answer and walked away. Summarized - Please don't go there! Its just a very bad price-performance ratio! There are way better restaurants around the area!!!! we are very disappointed and will never come back!

Suculent oysters and delicious slaw and pasta salad. Fries were a bit limp to our liking. Staff is friendly. Very casual dining on the water

My son and his girlfriend told us about the Crab leg special on Thursday nights. $25 or so for AYCE snowcrabs. They were excellent. Little restaurant, hole in the wall so to speak. Cooked perfectly, little slow in service but with party of 8 so no biggie. Came with side choices, nothing really special there. Coleslaw excellent however and served prior to meal complimentary. I think full bar available but did not have adult drinks. Also ordered a pound of shrimp. Great also, 21-30 CT so nice size. They offer fresh deserts also, did not partake but they have it. We will return.

Nice little waterfront Floridian seafood bar. Really nice view from the deck outside, fans and shade provided. As for the food it is casual basket food, lots of seafood, some chicken tenders and gator tail thrown in for good measure. I went for the fish n chips and so did the majority of people at my table. It was alright for a basket dish but I was expecting more from the fish since it is located near some of the freshest seafood in the area. It was haddock, which is fairly traditional, but I was expecting a local, delicious grouper bursting with local flavor, but really it was quite mediocre. Nice touches about the place include the beer served in mason jars and the totally relaxed Florida atmosphere. People roll up in their boats and come on up for a few beers which adds to the overall feel of the place. Overall a good little joint, nice location, average food.

Not a bad little funky restaurant. Take off on Cabbage Key "cheeseburger in paradise" where there are dollar bills tacked all over the walls and ceilings. Here the walls and ceilings are covered with customer drawings. They cover the tables with paper and give you crayons. The food seems like standard fish shack food. On Saturdays the have a special, a dozen oysters for $8 and they were delicious. We had grouper baskets and shrimp baskets. Not cheap, but good portions and prepared well. Not a bad choice if you are in the area.

Decent food, terrible service. After our drinks were brought and food order taken we didn't see our waitress for 45 minutes. She didn't have our appetizers. She brought coke slaw instead. 45 minutes for cole slaw. We got our appetizers after waiting an hour and our food came 30 minutes after that. We asked for a manager who never bothered to come talk to us. Our waitress did very little to help us out. And the food wasn't cheep. $88 lunch for 4 people. Thinking of going to Waterfront Restaurant and Marina? Don't. Go somewhere else where they actually care about their customers.

We had the special pulled pork sliders with slaw atop, it was amazing. Staff was friendly, informative, and helpful.

Great location with very pleasant views n occasional live music. On offer u might find marinated sweet tea fried chicken on Sunday. The kitchen is fast and good so I know their intentions are real fine! Menu is varied enough to offer burgers, mahi, grouper, shrimp baskets, salads and many sandwiches as well as kid menu. Tiny bar off to side and a packed main dining room w airy views. Now for the honest bit of improvement this place desperately needs a floor manager or front person. PLEASE assign staff to tables that are together so that their concentration is focused n aware of their table's progress. Please treat each table to prompt service as they are seated. We had quick service n meal came fast as we were early. Things fell a part for later guests w long long n nonexistent wait staff time. People did walk out after being seated n ignored for an overly long and unendurable wait for a drink order. Wait staff w rare exception: u do not look happy: u appear grim n stressed. Why is our waitress scattered all over both inside n out during peak time?? Why does no manager notice tables being missed or falling through crack? Cause no one appears to be managing, it seems. We will return for food quality n time our visit when u r not overwhelmed, grim n disappointed guests aren't stomping off as we are enjoying Our food next to their hungry anxious faces.....

The food was mediocre at best. I had much higher expectations for a place right on the dock. The view was lovely and the service was great but overall I felt the atmosphere was grimy and dirty inside and out. Also it was grossly overpriced for the small portions we received. The grouper wrap was quite good though.

Just ordered the big daddy burger and everyone must try it. Over 5 pounds of meat. Boom. Amy was awesome and so friendly and took care of us. Will be back on my next vacation building is from 1912. It's the original school house on pine island

Went there for lunch today. Nice little place. There were 2 guys playing and singing, I'm sorry to say they were not that good. We had grouper sands and they were good. Might go back.

Had a late lunch here yesterday, great view, food was fresh, we split 1/4 lb. of peel and eats, they were huge. We split a fried grouper basket, fresh, good, medicore size, for the price. I think they are a little over priced for the quantity, wait staff seemed overwhemed at lunch time. Beer price is good, .75 cents with a dinner. Worth the drive???
(3)Jim F.
Great outdoor seating and friendly atmosphere. The food is good but nothing stands out as a must have. Just enjoy solid food and a beer in the Florida sun.

A new friend whom I bought a Streetrider (elliptical bike) from told me I have to check out the Waterfront. He said he and his friends used to take jetski's over to this place every Thursday (for several years I think he said). Anyway, he was so happy when he talked about his group of friends' weekly jetski adventure around the area and they always started their fun at the Waterfront for lunch. Now I see why!!! My experience there today (my first time there) was beyond, way beyond incredible, delicious, prompt, the value is awesome, and if more WOW is possible, it goes to Kellie, the server from whom I was fortunate enough to receive super great care during my dining experience. She was soooo sweet. She was also busy after awhile and still, she was totally on top of it. What I loved most is something that is quite rare, (something I recognized in myself when I was in the restaurant business, too): that going above and beyond really catapults a dining experience from good to fabulous. I could tell several different ways that she was imagining before I even asked what would make the experience so much better. Let me give you two examples: she brought my service animal a bowl of water voluntarily!!! (Ok, she had me there and Maya girl, too, of course!) Secondly, (ok I have to add some examples there were so many~!) she had all the relevant condiments tackled. I ran out of nothing. And busy or not, Kellie not only volunteered to bring this hot sauce homemade yummy vinegar, but she actually took the time to tell me all that was in it, (a lot) including thyme, etc etc etc. (It was indeed awesome by the way!) I have been to Red's seafood (no more!!!! way over priced and food is not good in my opinion and not consistent) and I was greatly disappointed those times. It's all I had to go by as I haven't been in this area long, in addition to Salt Water Smoke house once (save your time and money!) Today, on the other hand, at the Waterfront, I got oysters that were THREE times as plump and OMG delicious and cost quite a bit less than the ones I got at Red's two nights ago. And ambiance...wowzerz! Today, Maya and I got to sit outside right on the water, divine, relaxed (with funny signs around the deck, too!) ! and I LOVED the music.! (my baby girl was quite happy!) I cannot write a thrilled enough review. I LOVE this place! Man, one more thing, I know something about seafood having grown up in Florida and the only scallops I've EVER had like Singleton's Seafood shack in Jacksonville ...the ONLY ones as sweet EVER are the ones I had today at the Waterfront (in the awesome 'choose your own combo' basket). I know what a HUGE compliment that is. I hope you will find out, too. I'm eating the left overs now and mmmm mmm mmm!

We visited the Waterfront at the advice of our neighbors. We had guest in town for the week and wanted to give them the Florida dinning experience. We loved the view and the food was hot and our waitress was spot on. I am not a huge fan of key lime pie until I had Waterfronts key lime. Love this gem and will be brining my northern company there to eat.

If you're looking for a Jimmy Buffet/tiki bar vibe place where you can grab some beers, clam chowder, and maybe a (slightly overpriced) fish taco... this is your joint. It's not fancy, nor does it pretend to be. Grab a seat outside, enjoy the breeze, and create some tablecloth artwork with the crayons they give you.

My wife and myself decided to drive all the way from south Fort Myers all the way out to try the Waterfront to try a different place we haven't really tried yet. We also eat out almost nightly. We have a very good idea about how "food" should taste. We show up to the Waterfront, couple cool stray cats running around..which is fine, I love animals. Sat down, ordered a bottled beer and she ordered a sweet tea. The tea isn't brewed, beer was ice cold! Ants running all over our table, can only assume they are on the chairs too. I ordered beach bread as a starter, followed by a Black and Bleu burger for me and the Mahi Mahi basket for her. Beach bread, looked 2 days old and reheated. Bread rivaled granite in strength and surpassed death in taste. Black and Bleu burger, over cooked, dry, non toasted or grilled bun. Fries were old, lukewarm and disgusting. I have never left food on the plate. Ate half and shoved it away. Mahi Mahi basket, fries sucked as mine did. Fish was breaded in catfish batter...doubtful it was even Mahi due to texture. Was fried so long, it was dryer than the paper towel it was spit in. Waitress was nice, could tell we weren't happy..but didn't care to ask. The worst 50.00 that's ever been spent. Wouldn't return if we were offered a meal for free and paid for it. I'm very disappointed. Sorry Pine Island.

Recent visit to St. James City, FL had a fanastic lunch at The Waterfront Restaurant & Marina. That day, grouper or flounder (your choice) fresh (always) from the local fishermen. Our small group had grouper sandwich, fish tacos (w/grouper) and 45 cents jumbo local shrimp (a minimum of eight) was the special of the day. Heck, it's all special at The waterfront! Oh yeah, many one dollar icey cold Bud's. So fine, excellent eats munching on the deck by the canal! Boat here for lunch! Good tie here up for small craft.

I have lived in south florida for 40 years and this was my first visit to St James City. Yes we always turned right at the stop sign but today we felt adventerous and turned left. Thank You Jesus! The Waterfront turned out to be just what the dr ordered for lunch. The clam chowder was very tasty with tender sizeable clams and a very nice addition of a circular bread crust baked on the top. The grouper that we ordered, both fried sandwhich size, mine without a bun, was fresh, fresh, fresh and my sweet potatoe fries were yummy. The beers were cold and our server, Julie, was awesome so all in all it was definitely a place we will gladly return to. I was only sorry that I didn't order the oysters, a dozen for $7, because I watched others enjoy them and was definitely jealous...next time!

Food (Fried Grouper Baskets) was mediocre compared to many other "waterside" establishments we have eaten at from Sanibel Island to Siesta Key. Food prices seemed more high-end than expected. Draft Beer was indeed cold. We won't be going back anytime soon.

Incredible value for money- on Tues it's $.45 peel & eat shrimp the size of your finger with $1.50 Bud/Bud Light bottles. My fiancée and I were stuffed and walked out with a $23 bill.

Can't beat the setting, right on the water. Good food and service.

The Waterfront is a great local place. The food is great - serving both seafood and land lovers food. Full bar. Very cozy, casual, family style ambiance inside with paper tablecloths and crayons to people's drawings hanging from the ceiling. The service and the food is good. Daily specials. This time I wanted to try the ribs special but they ran out just as I was ordering. Next time. I had the clam basket. I've had the fresh fish specials in the past and have been pleased with them. Mom is a huge fan of the calamari appetizer which she eats as a meal since it's just the right size. All meals are served with coleslaw. The Waterfront is just inside of Monroe Canal out of San Carlos Bay. Right on the water with plenty of dockage for your boats. On any given weekend the place is packed and many boats are at dock. Inside and outside seating as well as a bar area. Prices are reasonable. Accepts credit cards. Kids are welcome.

I have eaten at Waterfront several times over the years and the food is always fresh and outstanding local cuisine! This weekend I was out on the boat and our normal bait shop was closed. A friends told me there was a place out in St. James City that caried fresh bait and you could get to it by water. I assumed it was the Waterfront so we stopped by. As it turns out they don't carry bait yet. However the gentlemen at the dock offered to run to a store nearby and bring it out to us even though we weren't dining there that day. I hope they start carrying bait as I will certainly go there in the future!

The Waterfront had the best clams I have ever had! They have daily specials and we went on 35 cent clam day! i also ordered a shrimp and crab sandwich wrap that was the size of Pine Island. It was fantastic! My cousin also ordered their clam chowder that comes with a biscuit baked on top. I spent a week in seafood heaven! At the Waterfront, you can either sit outside or inside. The tables are covered with white paper and you are supplied with crayons to draw on your table cloth! If your artwork is good enough, or even not, they may hang it up on the wall! This is great if you have kids because it keeps them entertained while waiting for your food! There was only one waitress working that day and the place was busy during a lunch rush, but the service wasn't lacking at all. She was running that place alone! I got my dad one of the Waterfront T-shirts because they rock! There is a big beautiful Bettie Page mermaid on the back! How cool is that! I am already planning my next trip to Florida!

Place was fantastic. I ordered the philly seafood sandwich (posted a picture) it comes on a hoagie with onion, peppers, grouper, crab , and giant shrimp. I also paid the extra $1.50 for onion straws (also pictured). Would defiantly recommend. I have been there twice on this vacation and will go back next time I visit Florida. The second time I ate there on my vacation I had the jerk grouper with onion straws. It was good but I would defiantly recommend the philly.

Decent food...nice view from outside deck. Very small portions... high $...inattentive service from stressed waitresses. We won't return.

Stopped there today by boat for lunch. First used the restrooms which were very dirty and in need of attention. The women's restroom was plugged and no paper towels to dry your hands and no soap. Went into the men's restroom due to the plugged toilet and that restroom was not any better - same issues of no soap, no paper towels and lots of "liquid" on the floor. Ordered a sandwich to share with my husband along with an order of chicken wings while the other couple that was with us each had a sandwich. I ordered sweet potato fries with carried a surcharge. When we got the ticket, they charged $2 for a share of which we did not receive another plate, was not cut in two, and no extra side. Was charged the surcharge for the sweet potato fries but received regular fries. I asked for the surcharge to be removed and she said that she would have to wait for a manager to remove the surcharge. I asked her why there was a split charge when we did not receive anything other than the sandwich and she said that it was policy as I mentioned that were going to share the sandwich! After a several minute wait, we said that it we would pay the surcharge on the sweet potatoes as we could not wait any longer for the manager. Food was okay but somewhat high prices, restaurant and restrooms were dirty, and their policies do no encourage repeat business. I know that I won't be back!

The real deal - old Florida casual dining as it used to be! VERY informal, great oysters, fish, and a 4 lb burger for a group of 6 or more. They call it the "Big Daddy" and it is meant as an eating challenge for one. Never been done, nor should it. But the table next to us split it among 7 people and it looked awesome (and only $30 including a pile if fries). Our oysters, C.R.O.W. sandwich (Timmy's Nook anyone?), and Sangria were awesome. If you are on PI - GO!!!! Update: Back for dinner two days later - the calamari appetizer is tremendous; cooked perfectly and served in a light garlic butter. Grouper was so fresh it almost swam off my plate.

I took my wife to this restaurant over the weekend having been pleased when I traveled to Ft Myers in the past and was very disappointed with our experience. Our waitress forgot we ordered an appetizer, messed up our drink order, didn't bring the right sides to our entrees, and forgot that I had paid our bill and never got my credit card or a receipt back for nearly 20 minutes after lunch. I had a fresh cobia reuben sandwich that was bland. My wife was pleased with her shrimp and blue crab salad (even though she ordered it on a sandwich).

My favorite casual restaurant in the area. Very fresh local fish prepared well. Friendly service
